Palm Heights features a collection of significant and bold design pieces around the Beach Estate. The collection is based on aesthetic and functional design but more importantly design pieces that reflect a certain impactful movement in design. One of the first pieces guests encounter at the property is an Ettore Sottsass rug in the reception space hung as a wall tapestry.
Ettore Sottsass is the founder of The Memphis Group. The group, founded in the 1980s was comprised of Italian designers and architects who collectively disagreed with the conformist and traditionalist style of design that was being so massively produced at the time. The shapes and colours utilised by the group marked a sudden and stark contrast to modernist design that prevailed at the time the group formed.
The wool carpet faces the entrance and was designed by Sottsass in the 1990’s marking some of his later work.
